Founded in San Francisco in 2012, Shelter Co. is a distinctive pop-up camping experience and a unique lodging option for high-end special events.
Embracing the tenants of “style, simplicity and sophistication”, Shelter Co. not only provides groups with sleeping arrangements but doubles as a full-service event production company. Accommodations are luxurious European-style canvas tents that can be set up almost anywhere. They come fully-furnished and offer a host of custom amenities, from 400-thread count bedding to Adirondack chairs, lawn games, fire pits, outdoor movie theaters, dog tents for Fido or s’mores crafted by a private chef.
While typical “glamping” locations are stationary, the Shelter concept is flexible, customizable and entirely mobile. Specialty tents can be set up and used as game rooms, libraries, briefing rooms, bars, conference rooms or meditation zones.
Shelter Co. can also help planners organize catering, boat rentals, yoga retreats, wine tasting and nature tours depending on location.
According to Co-Founder Kelsey Sheofsky, “Shelter Co. is tailored for hosting groups. Every event is so uniquely different, we simply work to bring your goals and visions to life. We begin by determining group size and offer location suggestions that makes sense for the group’s needs and budget.”
Sheofsky previously worked as a wedding and event producer, and often shared her clients’ frustration at a lack of lodging options.
“I realized quickly that the core of clients’ desires was a beautiful piece of land to celebrate a momentous occasion,” she says “But the logistics of blocking hotel rooms, exorbitant fees or shuttling guests always got in the way.”
To remedy this, Shelter Co. partners with land owners across the country and is always willing to scout out new places to set up camp. Recent reconnaissance turned up a 10-acre former Boy Scout camp in California’s Mendocino County that had become privately owned, and features a lodge, totem poles and shooting range.
“We can make things as simple or outrageous as you desire,” Sheofsky says.
