Scott Mifsud of Just Events! Group with CSR tips

Scott Mifsud, VP of operations for Just Events! Group, a nationally operating DMC, works with clients to see philanthropy as “more than just writing a check.”

Look for tie-ins with your brand or theme. Groups should consider at the theme of their event and see if there is related a charity organization. For example, if you are hosting an Olympics-themed program with games and competitions, donate to the Special Olympics.

Give back to your community. It’s great for groups to give back to the town or city they are based in. This can start an ongoing partnership that kicks off during a big meeting. Plus, this makes it easier for employees to stay engaged all year, not just during the annual conference.

Stay local. Find smaller organizations that can really benefit from what you are doing. Instead of giving to larger national organizations, I encourage groups to help out smaller local groups where there is less red tape. You would be surprised how much help local orgnaizations need. Contact the CVB or your DMC and have them set something up with an organization in your host city.

Be open to teambuilding ideas that are new and out of the box. Be open to thinking out of the box. Your DMC or team-building partner will know what works to give the most back while keeping your team engaged. Ask for help to come up with something new, not just the bike build that everyone does. Be unique.
