The Shelburne Museum, outside Burlington, Vt., celebrated the opening of the new Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education. The center houses 5,000 square feet of gallery space, a classroom and a 135-person auditorium, and has ushered in a new era for the museum, which will now be open year-round. (Formerly it was only open May through October.)
A product of a $14 million capital fundraising campaign, the new 17,000-square-foot center will allow the museum to expand its exhibition and education offerings.
The Shelburne Museum showcases a large collection of folk art and Americana, displayed throughout 38 buildings, many of which are historic and were relocated to the grounds. The museum accommodates facility rentals for groups as large as 250 people.
Tours of the 40-room Brick House, where museum founder Electra Havemeyer Webb lived with her husband until 1960, are offered by reservation. The home and surrounding grounds are also available for special events.
