Chicago is one of the first first top-tier convention cities to be named a sustainable meeting and events destination, aided in a major part by McCormick Place becoming the largest convention center to meet the APEX-ASTM sustainability standards.
The standards provide comprehensive performance requirements covering nine areas of meeting and event production: Accommodations, Audio/Visual, Communication, Exhibits, Food and Beverage, On-Site Office, Destinations, Meeting Venue and Transportation. The Green Meeting Industry Council International played a key role in developing the standards.
