Authentic inns and taverns throughout Springfield and the Berkshires

What better way to get an authentic taste of old Western Massachusetts than to gather at a historic inn or tavern? Here are some historic stops for group dining and private events.

Located at the historic Deerfield Inn, Champneys Restaurant & Tavern is prized for its inviting atmosphere and gathering space featuring comfy chairs and fireplaces, a 17-seat mahogany bar, a la carte American fare and generous beer selection.

Just a few miles from Vermont in quaint Bernardston, The Farm Table serves internationally nuanced New American cuisine utilizing its own organic produce and other locally sourced ingredients. Housed in a farmhouse built in 1800 and featuring one of the region’s longest marble-topped bars, the restaurant accommodates private groups of up to 60 in a restored adjoining carriage house.

Part of the historic meetings-capable Hotel Northampton, Wiggins Tavern, with three fireplaces, two dining rooms and a cozy pub setting, has been hosting travelers since 1786. Set in a restored 1705 New England farmhouse on 600 acres of working farmland in West Brookfield, Salem Cross Inn serves creatively prepared seasonal fare at its Hexmark Tavern and offers versatile function space for gatherings of up to 225 people.

For over two centuries, the famed Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge has been a haven for hungry travelers. Here, groups from two to 24 can dine privately at antique tables in historic spaces such as the Plumb Room and Side Parlor. In the classic Berkshires’ village of New Marlborough, rave-reviewed Old Inn on the Green can host up to 32 people for private dining with space for around 50 at its nearby cafe. In South Egremont, long-time area favorite The Old Mill is housed in a 1700s gristmill and with advance notice, can accommodate small private groups from Sunday to Thursday.
