SOUTH BEND/MISHAWAKA
The new Morris Inn, connected to the Notre Dame Conference Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, opened in August following a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion. The newly updated property boasts 150 guest rooms, a 300-person ballroom and other meeting space.
In May, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend, situated adjacent to Century Center, the anchor convention center of the Downtown South Bend Convention District, celebrated a grand reopening following a multimillion-dollar renovation of its guest rooms, restaurants and public areas.
In July, the Gillespie Conference and Special Event Center, located in the Notre Dame Conference District, completed renovations in the 8,400-square-foot Fleur de Lis Ballroom. The adjacent 150-room Inn at Saint Mary’s Hotel and Suites recently unveiled a lobby renovation.
UPPER NORTHWEST
The Hampton Inn & Suites Schererville opened in August with an outdoor patio with fire pit and meeting space for up to 48 people.
Shady Creek Winery recently opened in Michigan City. It features custom craft wines, patios, covered porches and a tasting room.
Marquette Park in Gary recently completed a $28 million rejuvenation project. The park features recreational and educational facilities; a picnic pavilion and the historic Marquette Park Pavilion, which are both available for group events; and the Gary Aquatorium, which was built in 1921 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has indoor group event space and a private garden for outdoor events.
FORT WAYNE/ALLEN COUNTY
In fall 2012, the Grand Wayne Convention Center completed a $3.5 million property-wide renovation. At press time, the 246-room Hilton Fort Wayne, which is attached to the Grand Wayne Convention Center, had plans but no estimated completion date for upgrades to guest rooms and guest room corridors.
