BOSTON
Hotel Commonwealth, an independent boutique hotel located in Boston's Back Bay, has announced plans to add 94 hotel rooms and more than 14,000 square feet of elegant indoor/outdoor event space to complement the property's existing 149 hotel rooms and 30,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space.
The new facility is expected to open mid-2015.
"This project represents an exciting development for both hotel guests and the vibrant surrounding community," said Laurence Gottlieb, Chief Executive Officer of Fundamental Advisors, investment partner of Hotel Commonwealth. "As a graduate of Boston University, I feel a deep tie to this community and am committed to working with local community leaders to enhance Hotel Commonwealth's distinct role in Kenmore Square."
In addition to the 94 new hotel rooms, the expansion features three floors of valet parking, a grand ballroom, an outdoor terrace overlooking Fenway Park's 'Green Monster' , five meeting rooms, a boardroom and a private event entry and pre-function space. The build-out will take place on the open-air parking site at the rear of the existing hotel, facing Fenway Park and the Massachusetts Turnpike and does not add to the height of the current hotel. Hotel Commonwealth's operations will continue as usual during the expansion.
