Midwest hotel news and renovations of meeting properties (Dec. 2013)

Illinois

Hyatt Chicago The Loop is scheduled to open in 2015 with 257 guest rooms and eight meeting rooms totaling 5,000 square feet. Construction is slated to begin the end of this year. Hyatt currently operates five other Chicago hotels.

The Thompson Chicago is now open on the city’s Gold Coast, with 247 guest rooms and 9,000 square feet of function space.

Minnesota

Hyatt Place Minneapolis Downtown was rebranded and reopened this fall after a $20 million renovatoin. The hotel is located near the Hennepin Theater District and three blocks from the Hiawatha Light Rail line, which runs to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The property offers 213 guest rooms and 1,800 square feet of function space.

Plans to construct a 121-room County Inn & Suites, connected to the Sanford Center in Bemidji were approved, with construction slated for completion in summer 2014. The Sanford Center and George W. Neilson Convention Center can accommodate up to 1,000 people.

Nebraska

The 110-room Hilton Garden Inn Lincoln Downtown/Haymarket is now open. The new-build hotel offers 3,000 square feet of meeting space and is located a mile from the city’s historic Haymarket District, with art galleries, antique shopping and a popular farmers market.

North Dakota

Starwood Hotels debuted in North Dakota with the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Minot. The 102-room property underwent a $900,000 renovation and conversion and offers 2,000 square feet of function space.

Ohio

The new 257-room Radisson Cincinnati North Coco Key Water Resort opened in November. The water park hotel features meeting space accommodating up to 300 people.

Hilton Worldwide was announced as the flag for the 600-room headquarters hotel that will adjoin the new Cleveland Convention Center.

Wisconsin

Hotel Marshfield is open following a conversion and a year of renovations. The former Clearwaters Hotel now provides more than 8,200 square feet of function space, accommodating groups of up to 700 guests. The 99-room independent property in northern Wisconsin has two ballrooms, an outdoor courtyard and a fire pit with seating for 25.
