Hotel openings and property renovations in the South (Dec. 2013)

Dominican Republic
InterContinental Hotels broke ground on the 225-room InterContinental Santo Domingo. The 20-story hotel is slated to open in 2015 with restaurants, a lobby bar and meeting rooms.

Florida
The Hilton Tampa Downtown reopened following the completion of a year-long renovation. All of the property’s 520 guest rooms were refreshed. The Hilton now offers a full-service Starbucks in addition to 30,000 square feet of meeting space located on one floor.

The Jacksonville Omni Hotel announced plans for an $8 million renovation beginning this month. The project will update all 354 guest rooms and the hotel restaurant. Meeting space totals 14,000 square feet and includes a 7,000-square-foot ballroom.

Georgia
The Westin Atlanta Perimeter is currently updating all 372 guest rooms and public spaces including the restaurant, lounge and meeting and banquet facilities. Completion is projected for spring 2014. The property offers 20,000 square feet of function space, and the update will add two new boardrooms and a Westin Club Lounge.

Atlanta’s Atlantic Station unveiled new branding following renovations and other upgrades over the past two years. The live/work/play complex is located in Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood and offers dining and events, from a craft beer festival to yoga classes and restaurants.

Texas
The Joule hotel in Dallas completed its two-year, $78 million renovation. The update added 32 guest rooms in a new tower, bringing the total to 161, as well as two new ballrooms, bringing the meeting space total to more than 14,000 square feet, including the signature rooftop terrace. The Joule can also accommodate seated dinners for up to 300 guests.

Downtown Fort Worth will have a vibrant new public gathering place with the opening of Sundance Square Plaza. A multipurpose stage can be set up for concerts and movie screenings, and the 55,000-square-foot plaza also includes outdoor seating, landscaping, a pavilion and an assortment of dining options.

The San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its 9,800-square-foot Alamo Ballroom as well as other breakout rooms and pre-function spaces. The 30-story hotel offers 507 guests rooms and more than 14,000 square feet of function space.
