The main character in the blockbuster movie Bridesmaids, part of which was set in Milwaukee, gifted her best friend with a box full of mementos and favorite local items. Planners hosting an event in the area should take her lead and present departing attendees with any of a variety of Milwaukee-inspired goodies.

One idea, especially for the ladies, is a copy of Bridesmaids, now available on DVD and Blu-Ray from Amazon.com and other sources.

Milwaukee-area treats are otherwise often edible.

Brent Foerster, vice president of sales and marketing at Visit Milwaukee, suggests putting spices from the Spice House, cheese from Wisconsin Cheese Mart and a few links from Usinger’s Sausage together in a gift box or basket.

Turns out there is a specialty spice purveyor in Brookfield as well.

At Penzey’s Spices, planners will find everything from fajita, taco, salad dressing and sausage seasonings to a variety of gingers and vanillas, and even a few mixes, including Hint of Mint Hot Chocolate Mix.

Nancy Justman, president and CEO at Visit Brookfield, also recommends a bottle of olive oil and other gift ideas from the Oilerie. Extra virgin olive oils, balsamic vinegars, bread dipping oil and spices, olives, pestos, pastas, jams and sauces are among the delicious options.

Tiffany Zamora, spokeswoman for the Waukesha Pewaukee CVB, says Old Tavern Club Cheese produces many tasty gift ideas, mainly Old Tavern Club Sharp Cheddar Cheese, a top-selling item that’s 100 percent real Wisconsin cheese made of the finest ingredients.

Attendees might also like Old Tavern’s Taste of Wisconsin gift collection, featuring sharp cheddar spread, summer sausage and Wisconsin cheddar, all packaged on a hardwood paddle cutting board.

And you could throw Two Brothers’ Wine into the mix, since nothing goes better with cheese than a great bottle of wine.

Each Two Brothers’ bottle is produced by hand with fruit harvested on-site at the Pewaukee location. Award-winning varietals include strawberry and rhubarb fruit wines, white wines and red wines.
