Hip Hood - Exploring Hornstull on Stockholm's Sodermalm Island

After a day of meetings at the nearby Brewery Conference Centre Stockholm, head over to this happening new neighborhood on the west end of Sodermalm island.

Tjoget/Linje Tio
A hotspot for the hip professional, Linje Tio’s fabulous pressed-tin bar is buzzing with after-work socializing, while it’s Mediterranean restaurant serves ox ribs and a range of charcuteries. The complex also houses Roy & Son, an old school barbershop that serves classic cocktails during your trim.

Hornhuset
This three-storied eatery is actually three restaurants in one. The first-floor Torget cafe offers sandwiches and lunch items with outside tables for people watching on sunny days. The Mediterranean restaurant Hornhusets krog on the second floor has an upscale vibe with edgier design and slanted floor-to-ceiling windows. And the top floor features Enzo’s, a popular pizza and trattoria, with wide screens for catching the latest soccer match.

Gateau
This classic French bakery is one of the most popular in the city, due mainly to sourdough breads with ingredients that range from olives to apricots. The bakery claims its quality comes from long sleeping times, hand kneading, natural ingredients and high baking temperatures on stone slabs.

Akademibokhandeln
In search of the latest crime novel a la Stieg Larsson? This Swedish chain bookstore has a range of books for a culture that loves to read, and many titles in English–the second most used language in the country, with over 90 percent of Swedes who speak English.

Hornstull Market
If you’re in Stockholm on Sunday, head to this day market along the strand and its fleet of food trucks (yes, even in Stockholm). Lines are long at El Taco, serving some of the most famous tacos in the city, while Bun Bun’s serves banh mi sandwiches and Fred’s Food Truck offers pulled pork.
