The Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative plans to reforest 1,000 acres on the slopes of the Mauna Kea volcano to restore a formerly majestic koa forest that once belonged to King Kamehameha the Great, the first king of Hawaii. Much of the land has been cleared for farming and ranching, and the initiative aims to repair the ecological damange.
As part of a new CSR program by Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods, planners can arrange for participants to plant native seedlings to honor an individual of their choosing or to commemorate a special event.
Tours also includes off-road sightseeing and ocean views.
