Arts and cultural outings, including music, theater, dance and visual arts, abound throughout the Atlanta area for groups looking to add some entertainment to an itinerary.
The area’s theaters, galleries, art centers, museums and other cultural institutions often double as great off-site venues for group soirees.
One perfect representation of the opportunities for groups convening in the area is Midtown Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
“The decor at the Fox Theatre is ornate and makes for a very special night out for groups,” says Kristin Delahunt, manager of convention services at the Atlanta CVB. “Plus, the ballrooms are flexible, lending themselves to multiple themed dining stations.”
Groups are also welcome and encouraged to learn about the theater’s history via a fun tour.
“See the largest theater organ, ‘Mighty Mo,’ and walk down hallways that have seen superstars like Madonna and the Stones,” Delahunt says. “The tour is a big hit and provides some built-in entertainment for the night.”
At Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum: Scarlett on the Square in Cobb County, groups can browse and enjoy Gone with the Wind movie memorabilia during an event.
Featured items include the original Bengaline silk honeymoon gown worn by Vivien Leigh in the movie, Lana Turner’s autographed copy of Gone With the Wind and various promotional pieces, such as film posters and premiere programs.
Situated within walking distance of historic Marietta Square, the museum accommodates meetings, meal functions and cocktail parties.
Meanwhile, Duluth is home to the Hudgens Center for the Arts, which according to Victoria Hawkins, spokeswoman for Explore Gwinnett, is adoringly referred to by locals as The Hudgens.
“This art center offers Gwinnett’s best art exhibits and classes,” she says, adding that the Hudgens is conveniently located adjacent to Gwinnett’s convention center. “This makes it the perfect spot for after-hours cocktail parties or welcome events for your next meeting.”
Indoor and outdoor options are available for private events, including the grand hall and the sculpture garden.
“Art exhibits change throughout the year, so every visit is different,” Hawkins says.
