Key Notes: Social engineering?

We’ve got some real Social Media star power gracing our cover this month, with the original Apple chief evangelist, Guy Kawasaki, posing for the camera.

For those of you who are not familiar with Guy, he’s the toast of new media marketing, a popular speaker on the meetings and conventions circuit and what you might call a general, all-around Twitter rock star.

Many thanks for the idea of covering him goes out to our resident blogger, Joan Eisenstodt, who is definitely no stranger to social media outreach and is also a fan of Kawasaki.

We first profiled him in the July issue last year, and then touched base with him again for our cover story last month, in which we tapped into various “techsperts” to get their vision of how meetings may be 20 years from now.

In this issue, Guy shares his tried-and-true tips for your on-site social media effort, gleaned from his recent work on Motorola’s Moto X launch, which traveled through North and South America.

And for those of you interested in going right to the source to mine some great social and new media marketing gold, tap into Guy’s Twitter feed, or follow him on Google+. He also, naturally, maintains a presence on Facebook and LinkedIn.

There’s also been a lot happening on MeetingsFocus.com, especially in the area of education.

Check out our On Location roundtable discussion about contracts and negotiation, which we taped in the PSAV Inspiration Cafe at PCMA’s Convening Leaders conference in Boston. (Thanks to Visit Charlotte for sponsoring, too, so we can bring you this for free.)

The panelists, industry attorney Joshua Grimes, author, educator and attorney Tyra Hilliard and planning pro Terri Woodin from Meeting Sites Resource, covered a wide range of topics, from attrition and cancellation to some of the cutting-edge issues surrounding technology that are coming to the fore.

And getting back to the theme of social media, one of my favorite presenters, James Spellos, will deliver a webinar curiously titled Social Tsunami: How to Drink from the Information Fire Hose Using a Straw Feb. 26, and also hosts a video webinar about new meetings tech tools.

Check it all out at MeetingsFocus.com/webinars to watch for free!
