BOSTON
- A proposed $1 billion expansion of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center is under consideration by state lawmakers. The expansion would double the size of the current facility, adding up to 400,000 square feet of exhibition space, an additional ballroom and a 1,000-room headquarters hotel with up to 100,000 square feet of meeting space.
- A 300-room Aloft hotel and a 180-room Element hotel are under construction on a 5.6-acre site on D Street across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Both properties are scheduled to open in 2015.
- A 210-room Courtyard Marriott is slated to open in 2015 on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, next to the TD Garden. It will be part of a $165 million mixed-use development that will also include new restaurants and shops.
- The 178-room Hilton Garden Inn Boston Logan Airport is expected to open in the Orient Heights neighborhood in 2015.
- The Hotel Commonwealth in Back Bay, which currently offers 149 guest rooms and 30,000 square feet of meeting space, is expanding with 94 guest rooms and 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space that will include a grand ballroom and a terrace overlooking Fenway Park. Completion is set for mid-2015.
CAMBRIDGE
- The Porter Square Hotel is under construction near Harvard University. Expected to open in spring 2015, the upscale boutique property will offer 70 guest rooms, meeting space, a fine dining restaurant and a private dining room.
MARLBOROUGH
- Under new ownership and management, the 202-room Boston Marlborough Courtyard by Marriott underwent a property-wide renovation that included the lobby, guest rooms, restaurant and 8,000 square feet of meeting space.
PEABODY
- The Springhill Suites by Marriott Boston Peabody completed a $3.5 million renovation that included new furnishing and amenities for its 164 suites and improvements to the fitness center and breakfast area.
REVERE
- Mohegan Sun submitted a site plan to build a $1.3 billion casino resort at the Suffolk Downs racetrack. The proposal includes a 500-room hotel built to LEED Gold standards that would offer 38,000 square feet of meeting space and a full-service spa.
SPRINGFIELD
- Voters approved a proposal from MGM Resorts to build MGM Springfield, an $800 million redevelopment project that would encompass three city blocks and include a hotel, casino, movie theater, shops and restaurants. The company is awaiting approval for a license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
