Outta Site! - Monterey/Carmel/Santa Cruz

More Coverage

The large Central Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) covers six counties, from San Francisco down to Santa Barbara, and grapes grown in this region are influenced by the cool coastal climate. With 150 wineries in Monterey County and more than 200 in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, there is an endless array of flavors for groups to explore, and scores of charming off-site venues in which to sip.

A Taste of Monterey welcomes private evening events at its 4,000-square-foot tasting room in historic Cannery Row. Groups can sample a curated selection of vintages from more than 75 local wineries while enjoying stellar views of Monterey Bay. A Taste of Monterey can also bring the wine tasting to the local off-site venue of the planner’s choice.

Bargetto Winery, Santa Cruz County’s oldest winery, has been producing a wide variety of award-winning wines for more than 80 years. The winery is located in Soquel, just south of Santa Cruz. Its 40-acre Regan Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains benefits from the cool climate, producing excellent white wines. The winery can host groups as large as 125 for seated events.

Local favorite Alfaro Family Vineyards and Winery is located south of Santa Cruz on the Corralitos Wine Trail, a collection of four independent, family-owned wineries. Alfaro has recently begun planting organic vineyards; eight of its 56 acres of vines are now organic. Although private rentals are not available, the winery can readily accommodate motorcoaches, and its spacious picnic area welcomes large groups.

One of Carmel-by-the-Sea’s newest and largest wineries, De Tierra Vineyards, has been producing wine since 2001. Its tasting room is conveniently located in town and can host private events as large as 50. The family-owned and sustainably operated winery is known for its estate-grown chardonnay, pinot noir, merlot and syrah.
