Key Notes: Rock On!

Are You Ready to Rock?!?
Yes, I know, it’s a redundant question, gentle reader, but we’re cranking up the amps to “11” this issue with our feature exploring the fun side of corporate meetings.

One could be excused for thinking “fun” and “corporate” are two words that don’t often accompany each other, but contrary to the decidedly unfun atmosphere ill-enjoyed since the economic crash of 2008, loosening the tie could be back on the agenda.

Make that “loosening the tie with a purpose,” as meeting planners are sneaking fun back into events but are backing themselves up with some talking points about the return these sorts of activities offer to the host organization.

Rocking out isn’t the only fun item on tap, as our cover story this issue also details activities such as comedy- and improv-based programs, including a guy who bills himself as “the world’s only Professional Summarizer.”

Also In This Issue
The March issue of Meetings Focus also includes a story about the hot new trend of geofencing, which uses technology such as RFID and smart phone apps to create a technology perimeter wherein attendees can be alerted to up-to-the-second information. This could transform meetings and trade shows, as well as greatly augment the human interaction that is the primary benefit of face-to-face meetings and events.

One facet of meetings that seems to resist major technological changes—and you know I’ll probably be wrong on that statement!—is the spa experience. Our resorts & spas feature details what some of the top resorts are promoting as far as innovative spa treatments, including an option that will have your attendees both shocked and relaxed in rapid fashion.

Finally, it seems that year after year our most popular webinars deal with negotiation and contract strategies, so check out the March 12 and 26 “Strategic Hotel & Contract Negotiations” webinars, and also turn to page 54 to discover how to pick your battles when you sit down at the bargaining table.

Enjoy the March issue, and check out our 2014 Meetings Focus Live! list of events.
