Transportation options expand in Florida

More trains, planes and automobiles are finding their way to Florida and helping groups do the same. Following are a few examples.

Thanks to a new interline agreement, JetBlue and Silver Airways passengers can choose connecting flights to Key West between the airlines’ Florida networks via Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa and Fort Myers.

Allegiant Air announced nonstop service between Orlando Sanford International Airport and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

New in Jacksonville, Uber Car connects riders to drivers, allowing you to have a car at your location within minutes via an app downloaded to your smartphone.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport completed a series of major upgrades, including a new runway as well as additional and remodeled terminals. New service expands reach from Latin America and the Caribbean via JetBlue, while a $300 million makeover of the Southwest Airlines Terminal 1 at FLL, slated for completion in early 2017, will also add service from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Orlando International Airport received $213.5 million from the state of Florida to assist in the development of an Intermodal Transportation Facility to serve passengers arriving by rail.

To that end, All Aboard Florida announced 2016 as the kick-off year for the intercity passenger rail project being developed by Florida East Coast Industries, owner of Florida’s premier passenger rail corridor. It will connect Miami to Orlando with intermediate stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. All Aboard Florida touts itself as the first privately owned, operated and maintained passenger rail system in the U.S.
