1 White Tiger Gourmet, located in a former grocery store built in 1905, serves barbecue as well as breakfast, sandwiches and salads. Specialties include smoked barbecued pork, mac and cheese and the Happy Top Cheeseburger. The BYOB eatery has a cozy atmosphere and showcases the work of local artists.
2 Avid Bookshop is an independent bookseller that regularly holds events such as readings and signings, as well as workshops with authors. In addition to new and used books, Avid sells coffee, tea, magazines and other assorted gifts.
3 Taylor-Grady House, a Greek revival architectural gem, was the collegiate home of newspaper editor Henry W. Grady, who was credited with establishing the view of the New South after the Civil War. Designated a National Historic Landmark, this house museum is open for tours and is one of the city’s most popular venues for indoor and outdoor social gatherings.
4 The Grit, a popular vegetarian restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, provides groups with generous portions inspired from world cuisine. Soups, salads, falafel, tabouli and chili are among the menu choices. Known as a hangout for local musicians, the eatery is decorated with a variety of vintage memorabilia.
5 The Old Pal, named after the classic cocktail, is a good place to make a toast after the meeting. Specialties at the cocktail-driven bar, which opened in October, include the tequila-based Ponche Caliente and the mezcal- and pear brandy-based Smoke & Mirrors. Local craft brews, including Terrapin and Wild Heaven, are also available.
