West hotel and resort updates (April 2014)

Arizona

California

  • In September, the Descanso Beach Club on the coast of Catalina Island will debut new guest facilities, following an $8 million renovation. The new 13,000-square-foot Clubhouse will offer a variety of oceanview meeting spaces and indoor seating for up to 200. New presidential cabanas, an espresso bar and a dining outlet will also be added. The beach club offers access to ocean sports, team-building tours, spa treatments and beach parties.
  • The 210-room DoubleTree by Hilton San Francisco Airport North is now open, four miles from downtown and right on the bay. The hotel offers 4,200 square feet of function space.
  • The Residence Inn Irvine/John Wayne Airport in Orange County launched a $3 million renovation of its 174 guest rooms. The hotel offers more than 1,000 square feet of meeting space, a complimentary airport shuttle and is located 10 minutes from South Coast Plaza shopping.

Mexico

  • Barcelo Hotels & Resorts completed the first phase of a $48 million renovation of the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort properties; five separate all-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya. Renovations were completed at the Barcelo Maya Beach and are under way at the Barcelo Maya Caribe. In total, the five resorts offer 13 function rooms with a capacity of 1,680 people. Team-building options include spa trips, tequila tasting and salsa dancing lessons.

Nevada

  • Caesar’s new lifestyle resort, The Cromwell, is slated to open in Las Vegas in May with 188 suites, a restaurant by Giada De Laurentis and a 65,000-square-foot rooftop nightclub.

Washington

  • The Salish Lodge & Spa, 30 minutes outside Seattle near Snoqualmie Falls, completed a $1 million meeting room renovation. The property offers numerous outdoor activities and can accommodate groups of up to 180 people. Meeting room decor echoes the Northwest scenery with wood-burning fireplaces, large windows and natural light.
