Latest & Greatest - Arizona (April 2014)

Flagstaff

  • The Doubletree by Hilton Flagstaff debuted in January following a nine-month renovation. The newly upgraded 183-room property, formerly an independent hotel, is located on Route 66 between downtown and Flagstaff Pulliam Airport and offers two restaurants and 6.900 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom accommodating up to 400 people.

Mesa

  • Cubs Park, a 15,000-seat spring training facility for the Chicago Cubs baseball team debuted in February in time for the Cactus League Spring Training season. In the planning stages is an adjacent mixed-use development called Wrigleyville, which will include a Sheraton hotel, restaurants and shops.

Phoenix

  • The Arizona Biltmore launched a renovation that includes a refurbishment in desert-inspired colors for the 391 guest rooms. The project, which is scheduled for completion this spring, also includes new technology, lighting, signage, carpeting, wall coverings, artwork and furnishings for the Frank Lloyd Wright and MacArthur ballrooms.

Scottsdale

  • The Museum of the West is scheduled to open in December in the downtown Arts District. The two-story, 40,000-square-foot museum will have six galleries of exhibits devoted to Western artists and history, including memorabilia pertaining to Route 66. The building, which is being designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, will also include a theater, restaurant and courtyard.
  • The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale appointed 30 guest rooms with new sustainability features and amenities. The rooms feature bulk amenity dispensers in the bathrooms, LED lighting, reusable spa slippers, canvas laundry bags and recycling bins. All guests staying in the rooms are automatically included in the resort’s linens conservation program, where linens are changed every third day of the guest’s stay.

Sedona

  • The Hilton Sedona Resort & Spa is wrapping up the first phase of a $6 million renovation that includes a redesigned lobby with additional working and social spaces. The second phase will begin during the fourth quarter of this year and will include a refurbishment of all 219 guest rooms.

Tucson

  • The Arizona Sonora Western Heritage Foundation in cooperation with Old Tucson Co. has submitted a proposal to expand Old Tucson, a Western theme attraction and filming location, into a multicultural Western heritage center. The center would include interactive exhibits, entertainment and food pertaining to the diverse ethnic groups of southern Arizona and northern Mexico.
