Midwest hotel and conference updates (May 2014)

Illinois

Nobu Hospitality announced plans to develop a boutique 155-room Nobu Hotel and restaurant in Chicago’s West Loop by early 2016. The luxury brand, inspired by the famous Japanese chef, operates hotels and restaurants in trendy destinations that include Las Vegas and Miami Beach.

Galena’s Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa is about to complete a series of major renovations to public areas, including conference facilities. The renovation focused on the property’s 15,000 square feet of meeting space. Dining options such as the Woodside restaurant were enhanced, and 63 holes on the resort’s four championship golf courses were restored.

The 250-acre Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles was sold and will undergo a renovation. With 473 guest rooms, a 38,000-square-foot exposition center and 39 meeting rooms that total more than 100,000 square feet, Pheasant Run can accommodate large conference groups and tradeshows, and offers extensive entertainment options. www.pheasantrun.com

Michigan

The Crowne Plaza Detroit Downtown Riverfront is now open across from the Cobo Center, which is currently being renovated. Formerly the Detroit Riverside Hotel, the 371-room property offers five meeting rooms including a 5,300-square-foot ballroom.

Wisconsin

The 356-room Concourse Hotel in Madison is undergoing a renovation of its lobby, fitness center and three floors of guest rooms. The hotel has also added a Starbucks. The Concourse offers 27,000 square feet of function space.
