East hotel, conference and venue updates (May 2014)

Delaware

Operated by the state of Delaware, the Buena Vista Conference Center in New Castle, outside Wilmington, recently opened for public events. The Greek Revival Mansion can accommodate groups of up to 250 people and is furnished with antiques and Delaware art.

Maryland

Operated by Rubell Hotels, the historic Lord Baltimore Hotel reopened after a full restoration. The 440-room hotel was originally built in 1928 and offers 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including the Calvert ballroom, which has hosted Baltimore society events for more than 80 years.

New York

InterContinental Hotel Group’s Hotel Indigo line will open a property in New York City’s financial district in 2016. The $32 million project is a block from the new One World Trade Center and will offer 190 guest rooms and 1,450 square feet of function space.

The Wyndham New Yorker Hotel is undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation as part of its transition to a Wyndham property. The Midtown hotel will update its 1,083 guest rooms and increase meeting space to a total of 30,000 square feet. The New Yorker is now the largest property in the Wyndham portfolio.

Pennsylvania

After years of planning, the Lower Venice Island Performing Arts Center and Park is scheduled to open this summer. on Philadelphis’s Schuylkill River. The development will include a 250-seat theater, outdoor event spaces and sports facilities. The historic community of Manayunk is 15 minutes from downtown Philadelphia and offers historic shops, local restaurants and recreational activities.

Washington, D.C.

The Embassy Row Hotel recently launched the first phase of a $15 million renovation, which will update its rooftop terrace and pool in time for summer. The Dupont Circle hotel offers 231 guest rooms and 6,650 square feet of meeting space. The second phase of renovations, updating the guest rooms, lobby, meeting spaces and fitness studio, will be completed by March 2015.

The Washington Marriott Georgetown unveiled the brand’s new Greatroom lobby concept. The 462-room Marriott offers 12,000 square feet of meeting space and also features mobile check-in and the flexible Workspace On Demand program.
