International hotel and conference center updates (June 2014)

Australia

Starwood Hotels announced that its Aloft brand will move into the Australian market with the 2016 opening of Aloft Perth. The hotel will feature 224 guest rooms and more than 5,900 square feet of meeting space.

Austria

The Hilton Vienna Plaza is undergoing a $26 million property modernization. The 254-room hotel is closed during construction and will reopen in September. There are 10 meeting rooms on the first floor, the largest of which can accommodate 180 people.

The luxurious Park Hyatt Vienna is set to open in June in a historic district within the Austrian capital. With 143 guest rooms and more than 8,500 square feet of meeting space, the hotel is located in a former bank headquarters building that is more than 100 years old and was carefully renovated by artisans and craftsmen.

China

The 600-room Hilton Foshan opened in the province of Guangdong. The 27-story hotel offers five dining outlets, more than 13,900 square feet of meeting space and is located near public transportation and Shunde Pier, which offers regular ferry service to Hong Kong.

Germany

Zurich’s five-star Dolder Grand will debut new gallery lounges, adding 3,700 square feet of function space. With a separate lawn and lobby area, the three lounges will be combinable and offer flexible seating and natural light. The 173-room hotel also added new extended-stay guest rooms and offers banquet facilities and a 43,000-square-foot spa.

Japan

The Kyoto Convention Bureau announced that the ROHM Theater Kyoto, formerly the Kyoto Kaikan Hall, will reopen in 2016 as a conference venue. The theater includes the 2,000-person Main Hall, the 715-person South Hall and the new North Hall, which holds up to 200.

Turkey

Raffles Istanbul is set to open this fall in the Zorlu Center mixed-use development with 181 guest rooms and a 1,200-person ballroom. An Art Concierge will guide guests through the city’s growing art scene, including the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art and the SALT contemporary space. The hotel will include two restaurants, a heliport and a large spa.
