Is outer space the next frontier for meetings and events?
Writer H.G. Wells foretold it a century ago, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry brought it to life on our television screens in the 1960s, and today, thanks to the vision of Sir Richard Branson, it appears that space travel will soon become a reality.
In May, Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic, the privately funded space company owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and an Abu Dhabi-based investment group, signed a joint agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration that helps clear the path for commercial flights to outer space.
Located adjacent to White Sands National Monument, Spaceport America is the home of this unprecedented human endeavor. Sinuous and futuristic, the facility’s 110,000-square-foot, LEED Gold-certified Gateway to Space is home of Virgin Galactic’s global operations and fleet of motherships and spaceships.
Literally the headquarters of the future, the building is already set up for meetings and events. Its many interior spaces, including a massive central super-hangar, astronaut training rooms and exclusive astronaut lounge, may all be reserved in coordination with Virgin Galactic.
During the current preoperational phase only, groups can also take Spaceport America Preview Bus Tours, which offer guided, exclusive access to the Spaceport America site.
Dare planners dream of organizing board retreats, incentive programs and weddings on the Moon? The gateway to the future can be found in southern New Mexico.
