MIDDLEBURG, Va.
The Salamander Resort & Spa, which opened last summer, celebrated its first anniversary in August and was recently awarded LEED certification.
The 168-room luxury resort implemented many environmentally friendly freatures and programs, including planting 2,000 trees, running a green housekeeping program, updating wastewater facilities for the nearby town of Middleburg and placing more than half of the property's 240 acres into a conservation easement.
An hour from Washington, D.C., Salamander Resort offers a 23,000-square-foot spa and an equestrian center with 22-stall stable and riding arena.
Meeting facilities include numerous conference rooms and the 110,000-square-foot Grand Lawn, for large outdoor events.
