GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.
Approaching 100 years in the city of Grand Rapids, the Amway Grand Plaza hotel will unveil a $14 million renovation to its ultramodern 29-story glass tower this winter. The renovation includes two distinct designs: classic rooms and suites, with a dark contemporary style, concierge rooms, with a soft caramel and beige decor aimed at business travellers.
Designer Wendell Gooch wanted to carry on the traditions of the historic property by adding hints of the past throughout the renovation style. For instance, the hallway leading to the Classic Rooms features a smoky chandelier print, mirroring the 10 famous crystal chandeliers in the original Pantlind side of the property. All of the renovated rooms have a sparkling starburst mirror, a reimagined art piece similar to the hotel’s lobby centerpiece beneath the trademark gold leaf ceiling.
The two room options, in addition to the historically-designed options on the near 100-year old Pantlind side of the property, provides planners with room choices in addition to more than 47,000 square feet of function space.
