As a Millennial, what are your favorite things about living and working in Providence?
In addition to living in Providence as an adult, I also went to college here. I love being a “grown up” here for so many reasons. It’s affordable to both live and have an organization here, there is always something fun to do, the arts scene is always growing, and the restaurants are outstanding.
Providence is a very livable city, with the beach and small towns so close-by. I love how walkable Providence is and how there is history on every corner. I also love how everyone knows each other, which is very helpful when running your own nonprofit. I love how many colleges there are in Rhode Island, and so many students stick around after graduation because Providence is a great place to start and build your career.
What are some of the best ways Providence is accommodating the interests of Millennials?
There is a great arts scene in Providence, including great theater groups and some of the best local music around, including Roz and the Rice Cakes and The Sugar Honey Iced Tea.
The Arcade reopened last year and it’s the perfect spot to grab dinner, have a drink and do some shopping. It’s such an asset downtown and a fun place to go out.
Are there any great experiences in Providence that you would recommend for groups composed of Millennials?
One of my favorite things to do in Providence with out-of-town guests is the Providence Ghost Tour. You not only hear “ghost stories” but also the history of the area. It’s so interesting and a different experience every time.
I also love hanging out on the West Side, which has changed so much in the last few years. I always recommend people get the whole West Side experience by going to Broadway Bistro for dinner, the E&O or the Avery for after-dinner drinks and then swing over to Pastiche for dessert. It’s all walkable and in a fun area.
The city is full of free music all summer long, from concerts on the river to the Summit Music Festival. It’s the perfect time to listen to local music, have a ‘Gansett (beer) and relax in the sun.
