Nevada encourages 'gameful employment'

Delivering world-class hospitality the Nevada way takes serious coordination, collaboration and teamwork. Along with the fun and games, it’s a commitment that extends to the community.

Last month, for example, volunteers including more than 85 Caesars Entertainment National Meetings and Events staffers, 30 members of Caesars Entertainment HERO community service organization, and some 175 customers worked together to clean and restore a Clark County elementary school.

In October, prior to the start of IMEX America, attendees joined team members from The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo in renovating the Healing Garden and children’s play area at The Shade Tree, a Las Vegas shelter for homeless and abused women, their children and pets.

“Leading by example is what you do to get other people to step up,” said Venetian-Palazzo/Sands Expo President and COO John Caparella as he worked on the restoration project.

Along with helping kids and others in need, groups can play like kids at unique experiences like Dig This. At this “heavy equipment playground” in Vegas, teams dig holes, move tires and play basketball while operating two bulldozers and three excavators.

Opened in May close by the famous Reno Arch, the Whitney Peak Hotel is Reno’s first non-smoking, non-gaming luxury boutique property. Along with versatile indoor and outdoor meeting space, the property features the world’s tallest artificial climbing wall. Mounted on the side of the hotel, it’s 164 feet of color-coded footholds offering jaw-dropping views of downtown Reno and the Sierra Nevada mountains. The hotel’s BaseCamp facility also offers a 7,000-square-foot indoor bouldering park.

Along with hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, the Tahoe Rim Trail offers excellent group bonding experiences via seasonal (June through mid-October) trail building, repair and maintenance programs.

Teambuilding and adventure programs are ideal for working up the group appetite in Nevada. Choice programs for satisfying that hunger include team paella cooking at Jaleo within the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas; Basque fare at the 1910 Star Hotel in Elko; and coming soon to Reno’s Riverwalk District, private dining, events and demonstrations at Provisions from James Beard-nominated restaurateur Mark Estee.
