Family-friendly finds around Milwaukee

The Milwaukee area is a family-friendly destination where attendees traveling with their children will find a host of fun options to explore before or after the meeting.

According to Jeff Baryenbruch, executive director of sales at Visit Milwaukee, the city’s zoo and interactive science center top the list of ideas for family time when business has concluded.

At the Milwaukee County Zoo, which has several spaces for group gatherings, visitors will find more than 2,000 critters, including apes, tigers, flamingos and alligators.

The zoo provides an interactive and fun experience to entertain both parents and children, including a steam-powered Safari Train, the Sky Trail zipline, a ropes course, a climbing wall and an on-site carousel.

Children of all ages enjoy getting face-to-face with the zoo’s tallest residents at the Giraffe Experience exhibit, which has an elevated deck from which they can feed the animals.

At Discovery World, a science and technology center, families are engaged via interactive exhibits.

Among the experiences is a virtual walk through the universe, fresh and saltwater aquariums, touch tanks and exhibits including Innovation Planet and Les Paul’s House of Sound.

Discovery World also has indoor and outdoor spaces that are available for private group gatherings.

Outside Milwaukee, families are especially attracted to two popular parks, according to Tammy Tritz, executive director of the Waukesha Pewaukee CVB.

At the Country Springs Hotel, which has 187 guest rooms and more than 40,000 square feet of meeting space, is the indoor Springs Water Park, aka built-in entertainment for the kids.

Features of the park include an indoor/outdoor whirlpool, a lazy river, high-speed raft and body slides and the Geyser Games Arcade, with more than 50 games for all ages.

And in Frame Park, which is located on the perimeter of downtown Waukesha near a variety of dining and shopping options, is High Roller Fun Rental, where families will find paddle boats, canoes and kayaks for adventures on the Fox River.

For landlubbers in the crew, surrey bikes, pedal go-carts and a variety of other bikes are available for rental to enjoy along the 1.7-mile loop through Frame Park.
