With Florida recently becoming the 36th state to legalize same-sex marriage, LGBT-friendly Miami and Fort Lauderdale anticipate a bookings boost that could conceivably lead to more group business down the road but for the short term is proving to be quite lucrative.
Long favorites among LGBT travelers, both cities are seizing the opportunity to drive even more bookings with promotions that included a Feb. 5 sunrise beach wedding for both LGBT and straight couples, hosted by the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB.
“We’re aggressively marketing to that segment, not only developing the wedding website but putting partnerships together,” says Christine Roberts-Tascione, vice president of convention sales and services for the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB.
