Atlanta's Outlying Options

For groups wanting to escape the hubbub of metropolitan Atlanta, the area boasts a number of nearby locales with plenty of meetings-ready hotels and group-friendly attractions.

Cobb County, to the immediate northwest of the city limits, is home to the historic city of Marietta—a key hub in the Civil War—as well as some compelling outdoor splendor best exemplified by the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

DeKalb County includes part of the city of Atlanta, and is a highly suburban setting ideal for a serene escape. Groups seeking inspiration will be moved by the 9/11 Memorial at the Police and Fire Headquarters, and other low-key but worthwhile lures include the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and Stone Mountain Park.

Adjacent Gwinnett County, the self-proclaimed “Atlanta’s Playground,” offers group fun ranging from shopping shindigs at the Southeast’s largest retail center, the Mall of Georgia, to the largest Hindu shrine in the nation, the BAPS Hindu Temple, to spectator sports enjoyment at a Gwinnett Braves Minor League Baseball game.

Peachtree City is a planned community in nearby Fayette County that has grown to offer more than 100 dining spots, ample golfing and several meetings-friendly hotels to boot, including the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center.
