News Brief: Waterparks Make a Splash

Jump in, the water’s fine! 2014 may have been the year of the waterpark, with both indoor and outdoor projects springing up across the U.S. at a rapid rate, and waterslides becoming an increasingly popular family-friendly amenity for meeting properties.

Major projects included the new Great Wolf Lodge New England, which opened in Fitchburg, Mass., with 68,000 square feet of indoor waterpark excitement. Located 60 miles from Boston, the lodge also offers extensive conference facilities.

The Wisconsin Dells, always a popular meeting venue, saw the Mt. Olympus Waterpark double in size to more than 120,000 square feet, with 44 slides and rides, along with three hotel options.

On the luxury end of the spectrum, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World, which opened last year, offers 443 guest rooms, 37,750 square feet of function space and a lazy river, splash pads and two waterslides.
