Vroom Vroom!

John Hendricks is a huge automobile fan, and his son Andrew is a race car driver, so it’s apropos that two of the most unique aspects of Gateway Canyons are Driven Experiences and the Gateway Auto Museum.

Driven Experiences encompasses a luxury car rental program with Vipers, Ford GTs, Corvettes, Tesla Roadsters, Porsches and Bentleys, as well as a Pro-Baja Truck Driving School and two-mile desert track (the only one of its kind at a resort), where attendees learn how to drive the trucks or do ride-alongs. Andrew Hendricks often participates in the Pro-Baja Truck programs.

While I was content zipping along the asphalt in a smooth Bentley, Rudy Sharp, vice president and managing director of the property, says his favorite adventure by far is the Pro-Baja Trucks.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind adrenaline rush,” he says. “You can just imagine flying through the air at about 85 miles an hour off one of our jumps at the track.”

Meanwhile, Gateway Auto Museum is a fantastic spot for group events. The venue spotlights $35 million worth of American-made vintage finds, including the only remaining F88 Oldsmobile concept car from 1954. Several auto enthusiasts in our group said it was the rarest collection of cars they’d ever seen. The museum provides a truly special backdrop for receptions and dinners.
