The Wisconsin Department of Tourism announced that Lake Lawn Resort, in Delavan, Wis., is now a certified member of its Travel Green Wisconsin program.
The resort earned the certification for implementing green practices such as local food sourcing and energy reduction strategies to minimize its environmental footprint. Lake Lawn Resort joins a list of more than 540 Travel Green Wisconsin-certified businesses, and it is notably one of only a handful of properties that are over 100 years old to earn the certification.
The 271-room resort focused on incorporating locally sourced products into its daily food and beverage operations. The resort buys fish, meats and produce for its three on-site dining outlets from local vendors.
It also features on-site herb and vegetable gardens, with plans to double the size of its herb garden in the next year. The vast majority of Lake Lawn’s produce comes from its gardens or local vendors within 10 miles of the property. To ensure compliance with Travel Green standards, Lake Lawn Resort established a “green team” that meets weekly to check on the progress of its sustainability efforts. The group evaluates cleaning products used, implements strategies for energy savings, and plans special events to raise awareness around environmental concerns.
With its location in Wisconsin’s Geneva Lakes region, Lake Lawn Resort is ideal for a “big city escape” from Chicago (90 minutes away) and Milwaukee and Madison, Wis., and Rockford, Ill. (60 minutes away). The full-service property includes 22 meeting venues and over 32,000 square feet of total meeting space, situated alongside scenic Delavan Lake.
