Singapore throws out the rulebook when it comes to its nightlife scene. From rooftop bars to hidden speakeasies, from laid-back wine lounges to thumping nightclubs, the city lights up after dark. Areas like Clarke Quay, a colorful former warehouse district, mix up the offerings with intimate jazz bars and mega dance clubs like hot spot Attica.
In the downtown area, bars sit perched atop Singapore’s towering hotels and skyscrapers, boasting 360-degree views. The choices are vast, including the Fullerton Bay Hotel’s poolside Lantern bar, with its views across Marina Bay; New Asia Bar at Swissotel The Stamford; Level 33 at the Marina Bay Financial Centre; and Ku De Ta on top of Marina Bay Sands.
One of the most prominent rooftop spots, 1-Altitude Gallery & Bar, stands at more than 925 feet high and boasts sweeping views over the city. The venue can cater to groups for a variety of corporate events, such as unconventional seminars, creative brainstorming sessions, dinners and receptions, product launches and networking cocktail parties.
Part restaurant, part bar, Tippling Club excels at both, garnering numerous awards including one of Drinks International’s World’s 50 Best Bars in 2013. Tippling Club spans three shophouses and features a bar, dining room and private dining room. Known for its experimental, progressive cuisine and cocktails, the venue’s chef and owner, Ryan Clift, offers food and spirits master classes that can be organized for groups.
Populating Singapore’s Central Financial District are the numerous dining bars owned by BLVD Group. Boulevard Restrobar, housed in the former Singapore Traffic Police headquarters, now known as the Red Dot Museum, is a wine parlor that also caters to foodies and can host groups up to 150, including alfresco events in the courtyard.
The group’s Boulevard Number 9 lounge spans 3,500 square feet and can host up to 250 people. The lounge is linked to BLVD Group’s Restaurant Parrilla, serving Spanish cuisine.
BLVD Group also recently opened NinetyFour, set along Club Street, Singapore’s dining and bar haven. NinetyFour serves local handcrafted beers with casual gourmet cuisine.
In hidden speakeasy form, the 28 Hong Kong Street cocktail bar is a place to people watch and be seen. Attendees can mingle with socialites as they sip an updated version of the famed Singapore Sling.
For brew masters, Beer Market blends food, music and sports. But more than a basic sports bar, the concept is inspired by the dynamics of the stock exchange, where drink prices move according to demand, creating an interactive experience, including market crashes and bull runs. Corporate menus and free-flow drink options are available to groups.
