What do you remember best about playing for the Penguins?
Among so many great memories, playing for the Penguins from 1982 to 1992 fulfilled my childhood dream of playing in the NHL, an achievement trumped only by winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in my last two seasons. Our chemistry was unmatched and never replicated after I left Pittsburgh. However, while athletes rarely get a second career with the city and organization of their greatest success, I’m incredibly thankful to be the radio analyst for the Pens and live in the great city of Pittsburgh. It’s as good as it gets.

What makes Pittsburgh stand out as a sports city?
Pittsburgh has long been known as the “City of Champions,” with the Pens, Steelers and Pirates all winning multiple titles. With some of the most accomplished Hall of Fame players gracing our rinks, fields and diamonds, we also have some of the most passionate, classiest fans in the country.

How can groups best experience the sporting side of Pittsburgh?
No matter what time of year your business or group is planning a trip to the “Burgh,” you should make it a point to visit at least one if not all three of our state-of-the-art stadiums and arenas. Heinz Field is uniquely situated where the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers converge; PNC Park is regarded as the most beautiful ballpark in the Major Leagues; and CONSOL Energy Center is home to the three-time Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

You had a famous moment after winning your first Stanley Cup in 1991—what was that?
After our victory parade made its way through the city to “The Point,” it was my turn to grab the Cup and salute our great fans. That’s when the Pens’ Hall of Fame play-by-play broadcaster Mike Lange whispered, “Give them something to remember you by” in my ear, which was all I needed to say, “Let’s take this down to the river and party all summer!” I ended up taking the Cup down to all the rivers and having the time of my life!
