Set to open in May 2015, the new Bryan Museum will present the world’s largest showcase of historical artifacts, documents and artwork relating to the Southwest. The private collection of some 70,000 items spans some 2,500 years, ranges from the pre-Columbian period to the present and including rarities galore. Word is forthcoming on event and meeting hosting at the museum, which is located in the landmark 1894 Galveston Orphans Home.
Offering complimentary Wi-Fi service throughout the entire property, the Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort will upgrade its Wi-Fi from a 100 Mbps circuit to 500 Mbps this month. Catering to conference attendees carrying multiple web-based devices, this will significantly increase bandwidth to provide simultaneous Internet access to up to 2,500 devices.
Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center completed a $20 million property-wide renovation last summer. All 428 guest rooms were completely redesigned to feature a contemporary coastal flair, with other upgrades including the lobby, corridors, business and fitness centers, restaurants, meeting spaces, spa and public areas. The hotel also opened a new restaurant, Café in the Park.
One of three hotels in the 32-acre beachfront San Luis Resort, the Hilton Galveston Island Resort is presently undergoing a comprehensive multi-million dollar renovation. With the lobby, meeting spaces and many of the hotel’s 240 guest rooms already updated, further enhancements to the guest rooms and common areas will continue into the summer season.
Last fall, Galveston’s Cool Tours launched a new airport shuttle service for meeting and convention groups on the island. Available for transportation from Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the service includes a customized website where attendees can book and purchase shuttle transportation at a discounted rate.
