As many as seven new retail outlets, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and entertainment venues will be added to the neighborhood surrounding the George R. Brown Convention Center as part of a streetscape makeover in the newly revitalized eastern section of downtown Houston. Additions to the Avenida de las Americas, the boulevard in front of the convention center, will include a 1,000-room Marriott Marquis and a Hilton Americas-Houston hotel. In total there will be approximately 30,000 square feet of restaurant and other venue spaces along the avenue, ranging in size from approximately 1,500 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet. These spaces are targeted for opening in late 2016, in advance of Super Bowl LI in 2017 and close to the opening of the Marriott Marquis.
