Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide’s global headquarters in Stamford, Conn., One StarPoint, recently earned the highest LEED accolades available. Kicked off in 2009, architects, designers and its Global Citizenship team invested tens of thousands of hours to earn LEED Platinum status for an existing building from the U.S. Green Building Council. During construction, Starwood sourced many materials locally to reduce excessive transportation of materials and recycled 85 percent of its construction materials. The building also uses daylight harvesting, which automatically dims lights. The certification meets with Starwood’s goals to cut energy use by 30 percent, water use by 20 percent, and carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2020.
