Key Notes: Nationwide! (June 2015)

Welcome to the June issue, which may have a little more heft than what you typically receive.

Perhaps for lack of a better term, we’ve gone “national” here at Meetings Focus. While we’ve had a national features section up front—along with international destination stories—for a while now, we’ve been inserting regional destination sections in each issue at the printer depending on where our meeting planner readers tell us they actually plan meetings.

This meant that some readers got, say, a magazine with only West destinations, or West and South, or just South, etc.

But the dilemma has always been in the “borderline” states and regions—i.e., why should someone who plans in New Mexico, in our West demographic section, not get information on, say, Texas, which is in our South version. They’re right next to each other, after all, and it stands to reason that planners organizing meetings in each state may be intrigued by the offerings one state over?

Well, we’ve taken the leap to produce one larger publication each month that includes all the regional destinations. And because we really liked the organization of the previous regional section layout—everything you want, region-wise, in one convenient area—we’re still keeping the features up front, and then offering regional sections with their own departments sections and features, when applicable.

In other words, now everybody gets everything.

We hope you enjoy the new, thicker format, as well as the way we’ve organized it for easy reference. Please let us know if you enjoy what we’ve done, and as always, how we can improve in the future.

In This Issue
As far as June content, this issue offers up a cover story that gets to the bottom of all those bedeviling F&B needs that often place planners in a “Balancing Act” in order to try to please everyone. And not to sound trite, sometimes these choices—especially when it comes to allergies—can literally be a matter of life and death.

Other features include a “SMERFing Lessons” story offering some proven tips on SMERF events; “Moving Monuments” for off-site affairs; and a profile on some of the top casino-hotels in the Midwest.

Enjoy your summer of planning!
