For companies looking to add life to their awards ceremonies, opening receptions, teambuilding seminars and other presentations, Four Day Weekend, an improv/comedy troupe based in Houston, specializes in spicing up the mundane.
“Many of our clients use Four Day Weekend as the ‘thread’ for the entire meeting,” says David Wilk, cofounder of the troupe. “We can provide and emcee to keep the meeting flowing, on-time and energetic.”
Four Day Weekend can host a general session as a talk show to help assist presenters convey their message in a conversational way. The troupe also can facilitate teambuilding breakout sessions and can even create a video diary of the entire conference. Another option is to use them to host an awards banquet and make the entire night a celebration.
“We save the awards banquet,” says Wilk. “Even if you don’t win, you’re part of the show.”
Four Day Weekend can tailor its routines for each group, sometimes pushing the boundaries.
“We’ve done funny meeting openers using fake motivational speakers,” says Wilk. “I will make a nice flowery introduction on how lucky they are to get me and show a ridiculous video of every magazine and television show I’ve appeared in. People can’t figure out if it’s real.”
The troupe also performs four shows every weekend at a 212-seat theater in Sundance Square in Ft. Worth, Texas. Four Day Weekend sold a half-hour comedy pilot to 20th Century Fox and wrote a book, The Art of ImproviZEN, a how-to guide on combining creativity with commerce to create harmony in the workplace.
