Detroit’s craft beer landscape has erupted, with numerous fresh breweries and beer bars (including HopCat, Jolly Pumpkin, Batch and Brew Detroit) coming online in recent years, in addition to a number of distilleries that have launched.
“HopCat is a launch pad for Detroit’s craft beer scene, offering more than 60 Michigan-made craft beers, ciders and meads every day along with wine and cocktails,” says spokesperson Chris Knape. “We created HopCat Detroit as a place where friends and groups can gather in an environment that reflects the creative, musical soul of the city.”
The hip HopCat has the capacity to host shindigs of up to 400, and its setting near Comerica Park, Ford Field, the Fox Theater and the Majestic has made it a hive of pregame and preshow meals, along with late-night, post-event fun.
Detroit’s distilleries include Two James Whiskey, Our/Detroit Vodka and the Detroit City Distillery. The latter, set in the popular Eastern Market, offers a handsome brick-walled setting and lively tasting room, while Two James blends in tours and special events in addition to its own tasting area. Meanwhile, Our/Detroit is a vodka distillery serving as a cool example of some of the urban renewal seen all over the city, an impressively remodeled former billiards hall available for private events Mondays and Tuesdays.
