Upgrades & Openings: MidAmerica (July 2015)

Illinois
Hampton Inn by Hilton Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave opened in the former Art Deco-style Chicago Motor Club building. The 143-room hotel pays homage to the landmark’s contribution to U.S. car culture, with a significant amount of the renovation budget dedicated to preserving the 33-foot high lobby and its 29-foot mural of popular road destinations. The space includes two balconies overlooking the lobby, one of which has a 1928 Ford Model A on display. Hotel amenities include free Wi-Fi, a 624-square-foot meeting space for up to 74 people and a fitness center.

The new Conrad Chicago is expected to launch in spring 2016, overlooking North Michigan Ave. The 20-story property will offer 287 rooms, of which 12 are expansive suites. There will also be more than 10,500 square feet of conference space, as well as fine-dining outlets and entertainment experiences throughout the property.

Indiana
Renovations are complete for the Fairfield Inn & Suites Bloomington, including upgraded guest rooms. The hotel offers 97 rooms in total, including eight suites, and features 600 square feet of meeting space. The property is located near Illinois State University.

Michigan
Grand Hotel, located on Mackinac Island, opened its 129th summer season with the addition of new Cupola Suites on the hotel’s fourth floor. The Cupola Suites are comprised of four bedrooms and two parlors. The 390-room hotel is a National Historic Landmark and a member of Historic Hotels of America. The hotel is open from the first weekend in May through the end of October.

Ohio
The Residence Inn Columbus Dublin debuted in June as an all-suite property spanning four floors and 100 guest rooms. The hotel offers 600 square feet of meeting space, a business library, complimentary Wi-Fi and a 24-hour on-site food and beverage market.

Wyndham Hotel Group announced it has entered into an agreement to brand and manage a new-construction hotel and conference center in Madisonville, less than 10 miles from downtown Cincinnati, under its Dolce Hotels and Resorts flag. The 217-room hotel will be operated by Wyndham Hotel Group’s management arm. Scheduled to open in 2017, it will become the centerpiece of a $124 million mixed-use development project, known as Madison Center. The hotel will feature an eight-story atrium; contemporary art collections; expansive guest rooms averaging more than 400 square feet; and 22,000 square feet of function space, including 16 individual meeting areas. Additional features will include a rooftop garden, a restaurant, a bar and lounge, a health club and a sculptural bridge connecting the hotel to surrounding commercial space. There are also plans to apply for LEED certification.

Wyndham Hotel Group recently debuted the Baymont Inn & Suites Copley Akron, in Copley. The 62-room hotel is located close to Akron’s business and financial districts as well as cultural attractions including Blossom Music Center, Canal Park, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Hale Farm & Village and the Akron Civic Theatre. The hotel offers a fitness center, a business center and two meeting rooms, which can accommodate up to 225 attendees. Amenities include free Wi-Fi access.
