Latest & Greatest: Savannah (August 2015)

Savannah

  • Ground was broken on the 145-unit Fairfield Inn Savannah Midtown in April. The project is scheduled for completion in February 2016.
  • Rockbridge is currently building a 173-room boutique hotel on River Street. The property, which is set to open in late 2016, will offer 4,000 square feet of meeting space, a pool and a rooftop bar.
  • Later this year, the Kessler Collection (www.kesslercollection.com) plans to break ground on a hotel complex at the west end of the riverfront. Plant Riverside, as the project is currently known, will be anchored by a redeveloped power plant. When it is complete, the $235 million development will offer multiple hotels, with more than 400 guest rooms and thousands of square feet of meeting space.
  • In March, officials approved plans for a new 107-room Home2 Suites by Hilton to be built in the town of Pooler, located near Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. The new property will be sited adjacent to another property currently under construction, a 117-room Residence Inn.
  • Hyatt Regency Savannah completed renovations to its 351 guest rooms in this spring. The riverside property offers 33,000 square feet of meeting space.

Georgia Coast

  • Sea Palms Resort and Conference Center completed a $4 million renovation project in April. The St. Simons Island property now offers refreshed accommodations and a redesigned conference center. Sea Palms also introduced an upscale new restaurant, The Public House, which will focus on sharing plates. There are 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 27-hole championship golf course.
  • Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island reopened after a $22 million transformation in March. The oceanfront, 157-room property will open a new restaurant serving local seafood later this year.
