Washington, D.C.
Taking shape on the site of the former convention center, CityCenterDC is a $700 million luxury mixed-use development on 10 acres that will include D.C.’s first Conrad Hotel, a 370-room luxury property due to open in 2018.

Larger still is The Wharf, a massive redevelopment of 27 acres of land and 50 acres of water on D.C.’s Southwest Waterfront. Announced projects include a major live music venue and two hotels, including the Wharf InterContinental. Targeting a 2017 opening, the 278-room, 12-story hotel will offer meeting space, infinity pool and 5,000-square foot roof deck overlooking the Potomac and Haines Point.

D.C.’s second-tallest building, The Old Post Office, is undergoing a $200 million transformation into the 271-room Trump International Hotel, which is slated for a mid-2016 opening and will offer meeting space.

Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC is undergoing a $13 million renovation of all 222 guest rooms and suites this summer.

In April, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced that it was taking over management of The Carlyle-Dupont Circle and Savoy Suites Hotel. Kimpton now has 10 properties in D.C., the brand’s highest concentration in any U.S. city. Among these is Hotel Palomar, which recently completed a design refresh of all 10,000 square feet of meeting, event and prefunction space. With three hotels in neighboring Alexandria, Va. and one in Baltimore, Md., Kimpton has 14 Mid-Atlantic properties.

The JW Marriott Washington, D.C. recently unveiled the chic multimillion-dollar redesign of its 755 guest rooms and executive lounge. The property features more than 37,000 square feet of renovated banquet and meeting space, including 29 meeting rooms and a 14,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom. Connected to the Presidential and other suites on the 12th-floor is a stunning 7,000-square-foot terrace, available for functions for groups reserving the suites.
  
The former Radisson Hotel recently relaunched as DoubleTree by Hilton Largo-Washington, D.C. (www.doubletree3.hilton.com). The comprehensive redesign and reconfiguration project included all 184 guest rooms and 2,500 square feet of meeting space, plus lobby, public and recreation areas, as well as restaurant and bar concepts. 

Alexandria, Va.
Offering 5,000 square feet of event space and another 3,000 square feet of seasonal outdoor space, Hotel Monaco Alexandria unveiled the multimillion-dollar refresh of all 241 guest rooms, corridors and lobby in April 2015.

In March 2015, Visit Alexandria launched its new Meetings Made Extraordinary campaign, incorporating personalized planning, mobile technology and authentic local experiences to help planners create memorable, “outside of the box” meetings. 

Ground breaking took place in February on a new $40 million, 161-room Hyatt Place hotel. Scheduled for completion by summer 2016, it will be the brand’s first LEED Gold-certified property in the world.

Fairfax, Va.
Opened last summer, Phase One of Metrorail’s new Silver Line provides ready access to 16 Fairfax County hotels in the Tysons and Reston areas. Scheduled for completion in 2018, Phase Two will extend service to Washington Dulles International Airport.
