After a sporting event there is nothing quite as refreshing as a cold beer, and there is no shortage of the sudsy stuff throughout East Central Wisconsin.
“If your group likes to indulge in a cold pint of craft beer at the end of a long day, Green Bay is the place to be,” says Beth Ropson, director of sales at the Greater Green Bay CVB.
Badger State Brewing Company, which is located in the Lambeau Field Stadium District, offers 24 varieties of Wisconsin craft beer in the taproom. Hinterland, also in Green Bay, is a small artisanal brewery/restaurant that offers tours, has private dining space for groups and serves home brews, including Packerland Pilsner and Luna Stout, which features a hint of local Luna coffee.
In the Fox Cities area is another duo of beer purveyors, both located in Appleton.
The Appleton Beer Factory menu includes Iron Fireman Amber, Clock Out Oatmeal Stout and Millhand Hefeweizen, while Stone Cellar Brewpub, which has private space for group meals and meetings, offers tours and tastings of Pie-Eyed India Pale Ale and Houdini Honey Wheat, among other brews, as well as house-made sodas, including ginger ale and orange cream.
The Oshkosh-based Fox River Brewing Company is a local favorite situated on the river channel between lakes Butte des Morts and Winnebago.
Here, according to Cathy Cluff, sales director for the Oshkosh CVB, attendees can sample a smooth porter, a hoppy IPA and the best blueberry beer in Wisconsin. The brewery also has a food menu and a large outdoor patio overlooking the water.
Oshkosh is also home to Bare Bones Brewery, which opened this summer and offers tours and tastings of its ales, IPAs, lagers and ciders.
In Door County’s in Egg Harbor is trusty standby Shipwrecked Brew Pub, the area’s oldest brewery offering handcrafted options, including Bayside Blonde, Captain’s Copper and Peninsula Porter. The recently opened Baileys Harbor-based Door County Brewing Company serves Polka King Porter, Little Sister Witbier and more.
