Q&A with Lynn Webb, Director, Group Sales and Sales Operations, Dollywood.
What are your most popular options that groups enjoy?
It depends on what type of group will be visiting the park. Youth groups are always interested in our new and exciting rides. We offer many different ride experiences, from high thrills on Wild Eagle, America’s First Wing Coaster that makes you feel like you are soaring high above the Smoky Mountains, to family ride experiences like Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Miniature Railroad that everyone can enjoy together. Dreamland Drive-In is a park favorite with a nostalgic trip down memory lane featuring chart-topping hits that all ages enjoy. We also have groups that make an annual visit to attend one of our five seasonal festivals that we host at Dollywood.
What surprises attendees most on their first trip to Dollywood?
Most surprising is that there is so much to do and see. First impressions when they enter our front gate is what a beautiful setting the park is located in. It is not your typical “concrete with no shade” theme park. Everything is lush and green with beautifully decorated and themed areas nestled right outside the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains. The next surprise will be how friendly and helpful our hosts can be. Dollywood consistently wins awards for friendliest park and it doesn’t take long to find out why. Our hosts genuinely care about our guests and take on our mission --We Create Memories Worth Repeating -- to heart.
How does Dollywood tie into the local color and culture of the area?
In addition to our beautiful setting outside the Smoky Mountains, Dollywood celebrates our local artisans and master craftsman in an area of the park called Craftsman Valley. This is where we celebrate the long ago skills that were required to live in the rugged Smoky Mountains. You can enjoy watching hand forged creations in our Blacksmith & Foundry or even dip your own candle to take home at the Old Flames Candle Shop. Spending time in Craftsman Valley is like getting a history lesson in the skills needed to survive in the mountains in year’s past. Also, don’t forget to visit our Grist Mill, built in 1982 it was the first fully operating grist mill built in the state of Tennessee in more than 100 years.
What is your personal favorite thing to do at the park?
I enjoy the food and shopping. Our signature cinnamon bread made right here in our own Grist Mill is my favorite. It is a delicious treat to enjoy at the park or to take home with you. We have over 35 unique shops where you get everything from a souvenir t-shirt to great handmade decor. I have several beautiful pieces from the Custom Glassworks in my home that I watched our own master craftsmen create.
