Latest & Greatest: Interior Mexico (Sept. 2015)

Casa Fayette, the newest hotel by stylish boutique hotelier Grupo Habita, is slated to open in Guadalajara this month. The 37-room property, located in the Lafayette district, has a bar, restaurant and rooftop terrace.

➤ Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans to open the Sheraton Chihuahua Soberano Hotel in November. A conversion of the existing Soberano hotel, the renovated property will have 194 rooms, two restaurants and more than 14,000 square feet of meeting space.

➤ One of the newest luxury boutique hotels in Mexico City, Hippodome Hotel opened in the upscale Condesa district this year. The property, which has 16 rooms and suites, aims to provide luxurious amenities and personalized service, and also has a restaurant that offers private meeting and dining space.

Galeria Plaza Reforma, located in the popular Zona Rosa neighborhood of Mexico City, completed a major renovation to its guest rooms and also added a new restaurant, Almara, on its ground floor. A member of the Las Brisas Collection and Preferred Hotels Resorts, the property has more than 5,800 square feet of meeting space.

InterContinental Presidente Mexico City recently renovated its guest rooms and added an elegant new restaurant, Chapulin, which has two private dining rooms.

Hilton Worldwide continues a major expansion in Mexico’s interior cities. Among the newest properties is the 120-room Hampton Inn by Hilton Zacatecas, which opened this year with 1,829 square feet of meeting space. Hotels in the pipeline include the Hampton Inn by Hilton Merida, which opens this fall with 3,000 square feet of event space, and the 135-room Conrad San Luis Potosi, to open in mid-2016.

➤ The notoriously congested Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City is slated to be replaced by a new airport. The new facility—to be constructed in the area called Texcoco, farther from the city center—will ultimately have 94 gates and two terminals with the capacity to handle 120 million passengers per year. The first phase is scheduled to be up and running by 2018.
