The Autograph Collection’s, Kameha Grand Zurich opened in March with 245 guest rooms, including the Space Suite on the top floor, which debuted in October.
The 1,200-square-foot suites features a bed that appears to be floating above the ground, model rockets, hovering astronauts and a library of books and films about space travel. A wall features displays the entire script of HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, and a live stream from the International Space Station and NASA TV are available.
This suite was designed by German artist Michael Najjar, who is training to be one of Richard Branson’s first Virgin Galactic astronauts. His goal for the room was not to necessarily be a comfortable space for guests: “It’s more about creating an immersive environment which makes the hotel guest feel like he or she is living on a space station,” Najjar says.
The hotel has six meeting rooms, eight banquet rooms and a ballroom offering 15,000 square feet of meeting space. The Kameha Dome ballroom is about 7,500 square feet and can accommodate almost 1,000.
